that are bundled with Canon Products. Please contact
your local Canon sales office for support.
Q.
Why can't I fetch photos in PhotoRecord that have been edited in
PhotoShop?
A.
There is a workaround available that may overcome this problem.
Drag and drop the photos from Windows Explorer into the PhotoRecord
album, instead of using the PhotoRecord Fetch Photos option.

Q.
How can I send my photo albums to friends?
A:
PhotoRecord (bundled)
If your friends also have PhotoRecord, you can send the album either
by email or CD. Remember to send both the album and the photos.
If your friends do not have PhotoRecord, you can print the album
and post it. For more details, see our Tips
& Hints page.
PhotoRecord Gold
The best way is to use the Export Wizard in PhotoRecord Gold. Our
Tips & Hints page shows you
how. You can export your album as JPEG images and e-mail them to
friends, or you can export your album as web pages and place them
on the World Wide Web for your friends to see. Of course you could
simply print your album and post it to your friends.

Q.
How do I put the file name of my photos into their captions?
A.
You cannot do this directly from PhotoRecord. However, if you have
Canon ZoomBrowser EX you can change the Preferences in ZoomBrowser
EX so that ZoomBrowser EX will send the photos to PhotoRecord with
their file names or file dates already in the caption.
Q.
How do I print photos without photo frames or page backgrounds?
A.
In the Change Page Artwork and Change Photo
Frame dialogs, a None or Simple
tab (depending on the version of PhotoRecord you have) is available
for this purpose. No frames or backgrounds are displayed. Select
the None or Simple tab and click
on the preview, then click OK.
Q.
How can I crop or clip off parts of photos I don’t need?
A.
Double-click on any photo. The Photo Viewer Control Panel
opens, displaying the selected photo. Click the Clip
button. The mouse pointer becomes a ‘clip’ tool. Click
and drag on the displayed photo to make a selection. A preview of
your clipped photo is shown on the page. Click the X
close button in the top right corner of the window. The new size
is kept. However, if you want to return to the original unclipped
photo, you can do so easily. Simply double-click the photo again.
You’ll notice your previous selection is kept. Click the Clip
button again and the clipping is removed. Note if you want to permanently
clip your photo, click the Edit button. This will bring up your
default photo editor software where you can make permanent changes.
Q.
How do I make my photos as large as possible on the page?
A.
Select File > Print Modes to launch the Print
Modes Wizard. Select Tiled photo printing. Click
the Next button to go to the second page in the
wizard. Click the Set Page Margins button. The
Page Margins dialog opens. Click the Maximum Print Area
button. Click OK to return to the Print Modes Wizard,
then click Next and then Finish.
Your photos will be as large as possible.
If you have a Canon printer that supports borderless printing and
it is selected in the printer list (first page of wizard), you will
notice in the Print Modes Wizard the selection, Borderless
printing (Tiled photo) will be available. Another way to change
the photo size is in the Album Control Panel. Simply
move the Photo Size slider control to the right.
Q.
How do I make my own frames and backgrounds?
A.
PhotoRecord does not provide any way for you to create your own
new designs for frames and backgrounds. However, you can change
the base color of the frames and backgrounds so you can tailor them
to your photos.
Q.
Why can't I change the color of my Page Artwork or Photo Frames?
A.
Recoloring of Page Artwork and Photo Frames is only supported by
PhotoRecord versions 1.4 and above, and PhotoRecord Gold.
To find out what version of PhotoRecord you have, make sure that
the application is running and that it is the active window. Click
Help from the pulldown menu then select About.
A new window will appear with the version number displayed. |

Q.
I received the following error when attempting to print: In CSC
file prcsc0.csc: syntax error at line 11
A.
This problem may happen if the wrong version of the opapi11.dll
file is being used. You will need to copy the right version of the
file to the correct folder. If you cannot see the opapi11.dll
file you may need to change a setting in Windows Explorer. To do this:
- In Windows Explorer go to the Tools menu and select Folder
Options
- In the Folder Options dialog click on the View tab
- Select Show all files and folders
To copy the file to the correct folder, follow these steps:
- Close PhotoRecord.
- Open Windows Explorer.
- Browse to the location where you installed PhotoRecord - this
will be where you stated you wanted PhotoRecord installed during
set-up. The default location is: C:\Program Files\Canon\PhotoRecord.
- Locate the Program folder within the PhotoRecord
folder.
- Single-click on the opapi11.dll file to highlight it,
then right mouse click and select Copy from the displayed
menu.
- Locate the OpPrintCom folder within the PhotoRecord
folder.
- Right mouse click within the OpPrintCom folder and select
Paste from the displayed menu.
- Restart PhotoRecord.
Q.
I received the following error when attempting to print: Error
1302019;(Error message file missing/corrupt)
A.
This may be a known PhotoRecord problem where a printer name is equal
to or longer than 31 characters. Our suggestion is to rename your
printer with a name less than 31 characters.
To rename the printer, follow these steps:
- Go to the Start Menu.
- Left-click mouse on Start > Settings > Control Panel > Printers.
- Right click your printer name, then choose Rename from
the displayed menu.
- Shorten printer name to be less than 31 characters.
You should now be able to print. Note that this problem is fixed in
PhotoRecord Gold. Q.
Why are my photos printing in strange colors?
A.
Print out colors may be improved by one or all of these actions:
- downloading the latest driver for your printer from the manufacturer's
website.
- checking that the print option settings are appropriate. eg.
paper quality setting.
- checking the ink cartridges in your printer.
Q.
How do I print photos to a specific size in millimeters or inches?
A.
Select File > Print Modes to launch the Print Modes Wizard.
Select Fixed Photo Size printing. Click the Next button
twice to go to the photo size page in the wizard. You can specify
correct measurements here. |
Q.
How do I get rid of the white margins around the edge of the printed
page?
A.
You can't unless you have a special printer that will print all the
way to the edge of the page. This feature is sometimes called "Edge
to Edge" or "Borderless" printing. See your printer manual for more
information.
Q.
How can I improve my prints?
A.
PhotoRecord allows you to print in Draft output, Standard or High
quality. These options are located in the Print dialog. If
you have a special printer that supports vivid photo printing, you
can enable the vivid photo function in the Print dialog. Information
on getting the best prints can be found on our tips page.
Q.
Why is my printer slow to start?
A.
Most printers are designed to quickly print text. However, PhotoRecord
albums are mostly photos and graphics. PhotoRecord outputs high quality
image data for photos and page artwork, causing your computer to process
more information. You therefore need to wait before printing starts.
If you choose Draft print quality in the Print dialog
box, printing should start more quickly, however the print quality
will not be high.
Q.
My Acrobat printout is rotated.
A.
Landscape pages come out rotated 90 degrees if you make an Adobe Acrobat
PDF file. However, you should be able to rotate the pages from within
Acrobat.
Q.
I'm using Windows 95/98 and my printer won't print with PhotoRecord,
yet other applications print okay. What’s happening?
A.
You may have network sharing settings that block PhotoRecord's print
jobs. Follow the steps below to fix the problem. You might like to
print this page out for easy reference. This problem only affects
Windows 95 and Windows 98.
1. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel and double-click
on Network.
2. Click the File and Printer Sharing... button.
3. Click the checkbox labeled I want to be able to give others
access to my files, making sure it is selected. Click OK
on that window and then OK on the Network window.
4. Restart your computer if asked to do so.
5. Open Windows Explorer. Some (maybe all) of your hard drives or
folders should now be shared. You can identify shared drives and folders
by the little blue hand icon under them. PhotoRecord should now print
correctly.
If you don't want your drives shared but you still want to print from
PhotoRecord, you can have them individually unshared before you de-select
"I want to be able to give others access to my files" in the Network
window. You can do this as follows:
1. In Windows Explorer, right-click on the drive or folder you want
unshared and click Sharing... in the menu.
2. In the Sharing window, click Not Shared then click OK.

3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for all the drives or folders you do not want
shared.
4. You can now de-select "I want to be able to give others access
to my files" in the Network window, as described above. |

Q.
I was trying to add text to my album and received the following error
message: PHOTORECORD caused an invalid page fault in module OPAPI11.DLL
A.
This issue has been fixed in the latest release of PhotoRecord Gold.
The problem may have been caused by the installation of other software.
There is no patch available for the bundled version of PhotoRecord
that you have. |
Q.
How can I set all my text to be the same?
A.
This function is not available in the current release of PhotoRecord.

Q.
The Scan Extractor wizard will not launch or stops after one or two
steps. What’s happening?
A.
Your scanner may be disconnected or the power is off. Check all connections
and power to your scanner then re-launch Scan Extractor.
Q.
Automatic photo detection does not work. Why?
A.
Your photos may be placed too close to the top edge of the scanner,
too close to each other or overlapping each other. The scanner lid
may be open or your driver software may not be compatible. You may
also have a transparency unit attached, in which case you should place
a sheet of white paper behind your photos, or remove the transparency
unit and replace with the standard scanner lid if available. |
Q.
What causes problems when scanning photos with lots of white regions?
A.
Photos with large regions the same color as the scanner lid - usually
white - can have mixed results with Scan Extractor, especially if
these regions are at the edge of the photo. You may be able to eliminate
this problem by placing a piece of colored paper on top of the photos
before closing the lid, making sure the paper covers the entire
glass of the scanner. Alternatively, if you have a photo-editing
application you could use it to scan and crop problem photos before
fetching them into PhotoRecord.
Q.
Scanning is taking too long. How come?
A.
In the Scan Extractor wizard, you may have a high-resolution setting
such as 1200 dpi (dots per inch). To change the resolution, select
the Cancel button and re-launch the wizard. When you get to the
resolution page, adjust the resolution to a lower setting, e.g.
300dpi for general photo/print quality or a much lower setting for
Internet photos (72dpi - depending on available settings). |

Q.
Can I email an album or save as JPEG using the bundled version
of PhotoRecord?
A.
Saving albums as JPEG images is a feature of PhotoRecord Gold only.
Q.
Where do I find my exported Album?
A.
You'll notice on the last export wizard page the folder where your
WebAlbum is being saved. The last page of the wizard remains open
even after the export is complete. You can note down the folder easily
(or copy and paste it). You must remember this location for the saved
WebAlbum. You can then open a new html page in one of two ways:
Launch your browser. When launched, select File -> Open...
(Internet Explorer), or File -> Open Page (Netscape Navigator).
Locate your folder, then click on the first .html page (see tip 2
below).
Alternatively, open Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) and locate
the folder where your album was exported to. Double-click on the first
page with a .html extension (see tip 2 below). Your browser should
launch to display your WebAlbum. Q.
Where did my exported files go?
A.
When the PhotoRecord export utility is launched for the first time,
a new folder for exports is created, based on the name of your PhotoRecord
album, eg c:\my_album_export. All the elements (images and html pages)
of your WebAlbum will be placed in the new folder, 'my_album_export'.
The first page in the enhanced WebAlbum is by default named main.html.
You can click on this page to launch your WebAlbum.
The first page in the simple WebAlbum follows the filename convention:
we_page_10513046_1_export.html for example, where '_1_' is the first
page displayed when the WebAlbum is launched. You can click on this
page to launch your WebAlbum. |
Q.
I can't find my saved folder.
A.
Launch Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) and go to the folder
where your export folder was created. Select View -> Refresh.
You folder should appear. Q.
I can't find some images, how do I find them?
A.
When you upload your WebAlbum to your ISP, you must ensure all image
files are uploaded with .html files, otherwise you'll experience missing
images in your website. You should upload your entire folder and
have, for example, a hyperlink on your website front page pointing
to your WebAlbum path. Q.
My Web Album looks small, why?
A.
Computer monitors are typically landscape so a portrait album will
appear smaller in your browser window. Firstly, try exporting your
album in a landscape format. That way, album pages will take up more
area in your browser window, hence appearing larger. Secondly, you
could export with a higher resolution. These will make your album
pages look bigger on screen. In the enhanced web album, you can click
on a photo to enlarge it. Each photo opens in a new browser window
as a larger photo. Note that album pages exported in a simple format
appear larger as there are no frames. Q.
Why doesn't the slideshow work.
A.
The slideshow function relies on JavaScript. You should have this
enabled in your browser. You may see a message on the bottom of the
browser window that states, "For best results, please ensure JavaScript
is enabled in your web browser". If it isn't, go to your browser's
options or settings control to enable JavaScripting. If you are running
an older browser, it is recommended to update your browser. Consult
your browser's help if you cannot locate the settings function. |

Q.
How can I find out the name of an image file in a PhotoRecord album?
A.
Double-click on a photo to open it in the Photo Viewer window. You
should be able to see the saved folder for the photo in the title
bar, along with its file name. You can also right-click on the photo
and choose External Photo Editor... This launches your external
photo-editor software (such as Adobe PhotoShop). You should be able
to see the name of the file in the title bar of the image displayed. |
